BeReal, Bumble, Facebook, Hinge, Instagram, Match, MySpace, Snapchat, Tinder, TikTok, Twitter, WeChat, WhatsApp, Xbox, and YouTube – do you ever feel that you simply cannot keep up with all the social media apps that are made available to your children? To assist in arming ourselves with tools and knowledge about internet safety, we would like to make you aware of a special presentation on February 13, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel at the Boca Raton Christian School located at 470 NW 4th Avenue, Boca Raton.
Gregory Schiller, Esq. with the U.S. Department of Justice, a 19-year prosecuting attorney, will present on internet safety. The presentation will cover learnings from the NetSmartz program, from the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children division. This internet safety presentation will provide valuable lessons for parents as they oversee their children’s current and future internet usage. Mr. Schiller uses real-life examples to describe the offline consequences of children’s online actions. The three main risks discussed in the presentation include the following:
Inappropriate Content – Things you may not want children seeing or posting online.
Online Privacy – Protecting children’s personal information, such as passwords and phone numbers.
Online Solicitations – Unwanted requests and inappropriate requests to engage in sexual activities or other unwanted behavior.
In addition, he provides examples of cases that occurred locally (all parties remain anonymous). He covers everything from Facebook to Instagram, Twitter to YouTube, and Xbox to Smart Phones. Let’s arm ourselves with truth and be battle ready.
Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes,
you may be able to stand your ground. Ephesians 6:13
