Boca Christian
Annual Theme

A unique feature of Boca Christian has been the annual theme, which sets the spiritual direction of the school year. Past themes have dealt with America, creativity, excellence, diligence, truth, the environment, time, kindness, new beginnings, priorities, courage, stewardship, challenge, and transformation.

Our theme for the 2009/10 school year is:

Strength: The Joy of the Lord

Key verse:

Nehemiah 8:10, "…do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”

The prophet Nehemiah entered a very desperate situation when he visited Jerusalem. Morale was at an all time low and the physical surroundings were a mess, as the security wall was in ruins. Nehemiah was grieved about how things were and set forth a plan with God’s help to restore the wall, even in the face of extreme difficulties. The wall was rebuilt in an amazing 52 days. The first thing that the people did upon completion of the wall was to gather together for the reading of scripture. The people were greatly moved (they mourned and wept) on hearing the Word of the Lord. Nehemiah stepped in and encouraged the people to celebrate the victory and then said these famous words noted in Nehemiah 8:10, "…do not grieve for the joy of the Lord is your strength."

We are constantly bombarded with negative messages. The one that we hear most often these days is that the economy is in bad shape, unemployment is over 10%, foreclosure rates are high, and therefore, the economy is in the worst shape ever. We know from experience that things are tough, but scripture calls us to change our focus. It is time to be reminded that our hope is in the Lord. Our confidence is in Him. Our strength is in Him. The story of Nehemiah demonstrates God’s faithfulness in giving strength for the hour. Yes, the joy of the Lord is our strength.
