Internet Access

The entire lab and all classrooms (as of the fall of 1999) have access to the Internet through a high speed line (T1).  CYBERsitter is installed on all Internet access computers to filter out unacceptable material.

Students are instructed in the proper use of the Internet. They learn to navigate using a Web browser and participate in activities designed to build their research skills. Middle school students who successfully complete the Internet Driver's License program and return a signed Computer Use Agreement are issued their Internet Driver's License. This allows them to use the Internet for assigned research in the computer lab, media center, and their classrooms.

Safety on the Net - The Internet combines entertainment, communication, and information in unique and exciting ways. Unfortunately, some have misused this wonderful tool. How can you protect your family?

  • Monitor the computer in your home. Place it in a common living space, not in a child's bedroom. Make it visible to all members of the family.

  • Block unacceptable information. Install filtering software or access the Internet through a service provider that guarantees to filter out undesirable information. Access  "Parents Guide to the Internet" to review suggestions by the U.S. Department of Education.

  • Be informed. Learn with your children as they go online. Guide them toward constructive sites and experience their excitement as they make discoveries. Subscribe to Barbara Feldman's email edition of "Surfing the Net with Kids."
